Style Swap with The Sunny Scenery

Hiyee! This is N from TheSunnyScenery!
I've decided to impersonate Shelby for the day (muahaha) and take over her blog for just a sec. She'll BRB but for now you're stuck with me ;) -- hope that's okay! We decided to do a little collaboration today and swap blogs for a quick fashion post! For those of you who may be familiar with my blog The Sunny Scenery, it's all about them fashion, beauty, skincare, and lifestyle. From outfits to reviews, to tags, I've got a little bit of an identity crisis going on so it's a whole slew of stuff going on there--check it out! I even put out the occasional video if you're more of a watcher than a reader :) P.S. Shelby's got my page covered so go on over and check it out here.

Don't be a stranger and come introduce yourself, I'd love to meet you! If you wanna learn a little more about me, check out my "Versatile Blogger" post for some fun facts.

Facing it up with:

Rimmel London Clean Finish Foundation
Physician's Formula CoverTox Ten
Eyes Lips Face (E.L.F.) 83 Pcs. Essential Collection
Tarte Amazonian Clay Eyebrow Pencil
Rimmel Scandal Eyes 002 Bullet Proof Beige
Ulta Eye Crayon in Toasted
Covergirl Professional Super Thick Lash Mascara
Too Faced Juicy Jewels Liquid Lipstick

This eye looks is super easy and quick to do and really makes a statement without being too much. The exaggerated contour really helps to define the eye and give a good amount of depth to the lid (shout out to all of my monolid mates out there!). I used a combination of a nice champange and coppery base followed by an array of red-toned shadows to create this smoky fall-appropriate look.

Sporting:

Neon Green and Gold Feather Statement Necklace
H&M Cream-Colored Batwing Top
H&M Army Green Pants
Rust-Colored Boots
Gold Bangle

I know Fall is usually all about them reds and deep tones but I decided to switch it up here and there by throwing in a more rust-colored accent to go along with slightly muted greens. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Oxblood and Wine-Reds but I think fall embraces many other hues! Forest-y greens, Yellows, etc. This outfit is a nice transition from the summery days to the autumn nights. Just enough "dress" to impress but casual enough to rock all day, erry day :D

Thanks for stopping by!!!

Product Rave: Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil

If you've been following my blog you may have seen this eyebrow pencil in my Updated Everyday Natural High School Make Up List (click here) but if not, I felt the need to let you guys know that I've been using this product so often that it was time it got it's own special shout out :)

To use this product I've been messily shading in the darkest part of my brow, and then using the brush to spread the product out and define the shape of my brow. It's a super easy process in the morning and I never forget to do it. If I want an even more intense brow, I'll add a little bit of powder to deepen the color. It lasts all day and there's no need for a clear mascara or gel.

oh ho ho sneak peak alert!!! I may or may not be doing my first ever guest post with N.C. at The Sunny Scenerey. Keep an eye out on both of our blogs!! It should be up sometime this week ;)

Daisy Rollerball Marc Jacobs

Daisy it a fresh, young, every day scent that is suitable for the mildly girly girls like myself. On the Sephora website, it's described as, "Sophisticated, with a touch of whimsy, violet captures the eclectic, vintage flavor of Marc Jacobs' feminine, edgy designs. Always elegant, always enchanting - but not too serious - Daisy is a sparkling floral bouquet, spirited and fresh, wrapped in comfort and warmth."

One good thing to note is that I've found the Eu de Parfum less sharp than the concentrated perfume you can buy in bottles. If you have the chance, I'd definitely recommending giving both versions a good sniff.

Updated* Every Day Natural High School Make UP

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer - Medium 25
Since I want something lightweight for school, I love using a little bit of concealer where I need it: my chin area, around my nose, and a little bit on my cheeks. This product is super creamy and doesn't look out of place on my face which is why i love it!

Clinique Stay-Matte Sheer Pressed Powder - Stay Neutral
To set my concealer, I like using my Elf Powder Brush to dust a little bit of pressed powder all over my face. It blurs all the edges and makes everything last longer.

Rimmel Scandaleyes - 002 Sparkling Black
I have been loving this super creamy, sparkly black eyeliner on my upper lid. I love to smudge a little bit on my outer corner into a wing with a brush which seriously takes 30 seconds max. This formula is pretty wet and super easy to play with.

Naked 1 Palette - Darkhorse, Sin
To lessen the eye look and set the eyeshadow I've been patting a dark horse which is a metallic brown with gold shimmer over my eyeliner. It makes the look less harsh and adds a bit of dimension. To highlight, I love putting sin on my lower lash line to brighten up my eyes.

Maybelline The Falsies Mascara - Waterproof
To finish up the eyes I have been loving the Falsies waterproof mascara. I can't believe it took me this long to try it out! It keeps a curl, lengthens my lashes, and has yet to smudge on me!

Professional Eyebrow Pencil - 001 Dark Brown
For brows I've been using a pencil than than my usual powder routine. Its definitely a more precise, dark look which I prefer when I'm wearing glasses. I also don't need to use anything to set it like wax or clear mascara which eliminates a step.

Canmake Cheek & Cheek - 06
Lastly, I back at it with an old favorite. With my stippling brush I love dabbing a bit of this on each cheek with my Real Techniques Stippling Brush for a super fun, natural pretty pink.

New Glasses (HI IRIS!)

I used to absolutely hate wearing glasses and strictly stuck to contacts. But since I've got these I've worn contacts only once and it's been over 5 weeks! They have "thick" frames that are still thin enough that my eyes don't get lost behind them and I find the black to gray ombre less harsh against the face than all black rims. Lastly the sides are just wires which give everything a delicate touch and ensure that the frames aren't heavy and therefore uncomfortable.

I got these in asia so I can't link you guys, but if you have the chance to check out a pair of ombre glasses for yourself, I HIGHLY recommend!

Layering Orange Blush

left - Nyx Blush Cinnamon
middle - Canmake Cheek & Cheek 08
right - both blushes layered

A few days ago my beautiful friend Rona was telling me that she had a few products that she didn't use as often as she liked and wanted to pass on. Of course this was my reaction..

She ended up giving me a vibrant orange Nyx blush that I'm not going to lie, looked a little bit intimidating. I think this blush is from the tangerine/orange phase that the beauty world went through a little while back and I was immediately excited to see if I could work with this  CRAZY popular trend.

The best description that I have for the affect of this blush is the bright orange smear on your napkin from when you eat spaghetti and wipe the corners of your mouth. It was Not a very wearable color on my skin so I decided to layer it with a equally vibrant hot pink blush. The result was a really fun and wearable coral! I probably should've seen it coming-- pink + orange = coral but WHATEVER. I'm really happy with the result and I'm glad I found a fun way to wear this blush.

Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Mascara

When it comes to mascara, I have two main requirements: it has to be lengthening and it has to hold a curl. Not too tall of an order, right? But for the sake of a thorough review, let's go through the usual mascara checklist.

Application
One of the first things I noticed when applying this mascara is how creamy and smooth the formula is. Because it isn't watery like some other mascaras Ive encountered in the past, I have more time to go back in with the brush and fix any lashes that have gone astray before the formula sets. The wand, which is made of natural bristles is really easy to work with and really gets into the outer corners of my eyes, which I love to accentuate.

Volume
This mascara definitely doesn't fail you in this department. It really makes each lash look two times thicker.

Lengthening / Holding a Curl
This mascara did a decent job in this department-- nothing spidery, but a very wearable, natural length which I really liked. Unfortunately, because each lash was getting completely coated, it really caused my lashes to droop and lose their curl.

Throughout the day
I've yet to have any problem with smudging! It should be noted however, that I don't usually have a problem with panda eyes when it comes to mascara.

I definitely understand the hype surrounding this product because it really is a great formula + brush combination that's easy to work with. That being said, I didn't find it holding a curl as well as I would have liked and so the search continues!

Nars Lipstick Shrinagar

Shrinigar is a sheer sophisticated berry tone that gives you that edgy feel but in a still classic way. The best way to describe what I mean is when you see someone wearing dark lipstick and you think, "Oh yeah I see where you're going with that and it looks good! But I don't think I'm quite there yet." This lipstick pokes at that vampy edge without completely devoting to it. The staying power for me is about 4 four hours which is quite impressive as I don't usually build up with this lipstick because I prefer it to be quite subtle.

Dior Rosy Tan (754) Eyeshadow Palette

The first thing that I noticed about the DIOR 5-Color Rosy Tan palette is that all of the shades in this palette are incredibly silky and easy to blend. If you're going for a smooth smokey eye, this is your one stop shop. I especially love the upper right hand shade which is a rich burgundy with gold shimmer as it easily intensifies any eye look and gives a really luxurious shimmer. And because the colors are all neutral, the look created with these shadows won't compete with whatever cheek/lip duo you plan on sporting.

Of course, spending $60 on a palette creates some pretty high expectations so before you think that this palette is or is not for you, I'd like to mention two things that I'm not too impressed with. First of all, I have absolutely no use for the pink shade. Sure, its very pretty and looks like it fits well with the overall color scheme, but Im really not a pink eyeshadow kind of girl and I haven't touched it except to swatch. Second, the bottom right shadow is relatively cool toned. If you have a tan or are on the darker/warmer side of the spectrum, you may have some trouble working with this cool, taupe. For that reason, I love blending a little bit of Naked 1's Buck around the edges of wherever I place this shadow to avoid a gray cast. Lastly, the consistency of these shadows isn't super pigmented, which makes it easier to do a even sweep across the lid but harder to shape or sculpt. An example of this would be using the darkest shadow as an eyeliner; the shade just isn't pigmented enough for you to draw a wing.

FOTD: Asia Beauty Products

Hello hello! It's about time for a FOTD featuring a handful of summer appropriate asian beauty products. Lets get into it. Hi Rona if you're seeing this <3

Canmake Eyebrow Liquid
I'd never used a liquid brow product before but decided to branch out with an eyebrow marker. It's a felt tip so that you can draw in specific hairs here and there. Caution: you need a pretty light hand to apply this product because its pretty pigmented and difficult to blend once its had a few seconds to try.

Baby Lips Color Poppy Red
Unfortunately this product is only available in Asia and I couldn't find it online in the US. It's a pretty red tinted lip balm with a peppermint tingle which I LOVE :) This is super easy for to apply and very summer appropriate.

Lovedrops Impact Eyeliner - Black
I was probably the most surprised by this product because it doesn't look like much from the packaging, but this eyeliner has got have the darkest blackest formula I have ever tried! It doesn't have as much precision as the dolly wink eyeliner, but is definitely more opaque.

Sweets Sweets Velvet Souffle Cheeks 03
This is a super fun cream cheek stain that looks really nice on all skin tones. In the pot it's quite a dark berry shade but on the skin it just barely comes across as a subtle flush which is so perfect for summer.

Hyper Curl Volum' Express Spiky Comb Waterproof Mascara (FULL REVIEW)
Can't forget about mascara! You can click the link to read my full review :)

Mac Prolongwear Concealer
This seriously covers up EVERYTHING. It worked out because I needed to get rid of a few spots around my nose and this concealer did the job quite beautifully.

brighten up, buttercup!

Summer. Shimmer. Summer. Shimmer....... Shimmersummer. Same thing right? I always find myself using summer as an excuse for a little extra sparkle so without further to do, heres a handful of my favorite eye-catching products!

Benefit Wat's Up
This is a super easy to blend, champagne cream highlighter. I love using this on my cheekbones, down my nose, on my brow bone, and on the inner corner of my eyes alongside a natural fresh face.

VS Pro Light FX Eye Brightener
I love dabbing this product on the high points of my cheeks and then blending into my blush with my real techniques stippling brush. Its a shear shimmer that works especially well with matte and subtle blushers.

3-in-1 Concealer for Eyes
Though its made for covering up dark circles, I've found that this concealer just isn't opaque enough for my eyes so I've started using it as a contouring highlighter. This is good for a dramatic eye look or already shimmery blush when you don't want to overwhelm your face. If you hate scented products I would NOT recommend this product as it has a pretty strong perfume scent.

Stila Eye Shimmer Pen
This is the product I go for when I want to pack a punch. Its not shimmer, its not subtle, its liquid, gritty, GLITTER. I love using this as a glitter base as its a little bit tacky on the lids and gives a really glamorous, disco ball-esque copper base.

The secret to longer lashing brushes is a hair tie.

Storing wet brushes bristle side up or on their sides can allow for water to seep into the brush, ruining the glue. For that reason, its important that you let your brushes dry upside down after washing. The easiest, cheapest solution is to use a hair tie or rubber band! Fold a hair tie around a towel rack (or hanger) and shimmy your brush through each loop. Thank you for reading this super quick post!

the one and done.

When I first purchased the much raved about Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze, I instantly understood what all the hype was about-- I found it super creamy, blend-able, pigmented and long lasting. But the reason why I didn't get along with it was because I found the shimmer in it too cool toned. This looked really unflattering on me as it gave a gray tint to my warm tone skin. Nooo bueno. For that reason, it got kind of lost in my make up drawer. I'd pull it out every now and then as a base, but I'd never use it on its own. Somehow I had formed this misconception that cream shadows are best applied with your fingers so you may be able to imagine my face when I decided to try applying this with a flat shader brush and saw HOW GOOD IT LOOKED. With a brush, you have so much more control over how much product you're applying so blending a small bit of product starting from the crease onto your lid gives the most flattering wash of color that doesn't have enough shimmer to start reflecting those cool toned hues. I'm so happy with this product now and it's super pretty and easy to use on its own.

Holika Holika Lashes #04 (PROM #3)

I'm not going to lie-- this post is a little bit of a redemption post for me. On the day of my prom, my eyes were just way to irritated from stress and a lack of sleep. Long story short, they were just NOT feeling it when I wanted to add false eyelashes to my look. :(  If I could go back, I definitely would've done this. This is a pretty simple monolid make up look: a pop of dark blue onto of bronze, a bold wing, and luscious lashes.

PRODUCTS USED
Maybelline Fit Me Concealer 25 $7
Instead of using a full coverage foundation that lots of people prefer on prom night, I decided to opt for something a little lighter and more breathable. Since I wasn't having too bad of a skin day, I figured that there was no need for something uncomfortable! Contrary to the belief that your make up needs to be long lasting while you "dance the night away," all you really need is for your make up to last for the few hours you're taking pictures for. After you get to the dance floor, no one will give a second thought about what your make up looks like-- you can take even wipe it off in the bathroom if you want!

Maybelline Balm Stain Honey $9
This stain gives such a flattering pinky nude that works well with basically EVERY eye look. I didn't want to do anything bold with this look, but you could probably get away with a true matte lipstick.

Nyx Eyebrow Cake Powder $6
Gotta have eyebrows! Using powder gives a really natural finish but doesn't last very long. If you want something more long wearing, you could try using pencil or a clear mascara over the top.

Rimmel Scandaleyes Bullet Proof Beige #5
For a nice base that will make my shadow really pop, I decided to use a cream shadow. It also worked really well as a highlight for my lids.

Almay Intense i-color Smoky-Kit (For Brown Eyes) #7
For the outer corner of my eyes, I decided to use the bronze lid color from this palette. Its really easy to blend and is flattering on warm skin tones.

Kirkland Eyeshadow Midnight Glimmer (no longer on sale)
Since my dress is dark blue, I decided add a little bit of dark blue in the crease.

Dolly Wink Black Liquid Eyeliner $18
I LOVE this eyeliner! Its lasted me for months and always comes out really black and the tip is perfect for a winged eyeliner.

Majolica Majorica Lash King $23
Finish off with mascara. This one in particular is extremely long lasting and keeps my eyelashes curled. It's also smudge proof-- so no panda eyes for me!

Holika Holika Lashes #04 $3.50
There are times when I'll see someone rocking a smokey eye and the color placement, blending, and shading will be amazing-- but when you get to the lashes, they're understated and look just falls apart. If only they had these lashes!

These are extremely easy to curl, VERY GLAMOROUS, and super fun. I had so much fun playing with these,
One piece of advice that I have when wearing these lashes is to bring around a handy eyelash curler as these do tend to fall throughout the day. If you're not wearing a mascara that holds up your curl, they WILL droop.

I normally have mono lids, but when I put on false eyelashes I get just the hint of a crease. If this sounds like you, you may want to try on your lashes before hand to see if they look ok on you! I had a friend who's smile kinda got crinkled when she wore false eyelashes so make sure to test them out.
