Madeline DIY COSTUME HALLOWEEN 2014

Happy Halloween from the Madelines!!

My post as a Matryoshka doll from last year did pretty well so I thought that I'd make an updated post about this year's costume.  It was super easy to make and I think it went quite well! At school, one teacher came up to us during lunch and told us that she absolutely loved our costume and that when she saw one of us walking by her classroom, she completely stopped teaching. So I guess that means it's somewhat accurate!

Materials :

-A Floppy Sun Hat ($5 from Party City)
- White Knee High Socks
- Black Flats
- White Gloves ($1 from Joannes)
- Royal Blue Dress (which we borrowed from various friends)
- Fabric Glue
- 1 yard of Royal Blue Fabric (Per Person)
- 1/4 yard of White Fleece (Per Person)
- Red Ribbon
- Safety Pins
- lastly, and of course this is optional, but we had a friend wear my old nun costume from a school musical.. we probably wouldn't have had a nun if the costume weren't so easily available.

DIY CAPELET
Think of it as a circle skirt for your shoulders. If you know what I'm talking about, you probably don't even need to read the tutorial. But for everyone else, this caplet only takes a few steps!

1. Purchase the royal blue material fabric (or a color that will match your dress best) I purchased 1 yard per person. Since I was making Caplets for three people, I bought 3 yards.

2. I used this tutorial  to cut out the neck hole. Skip over to the "Big Girl Tutorial" which shows you how to fold and cut out a 2.5 radius hole in the center of the fabric.

3. Once you have a suspicious hole right smack dab in the middle of your fabric, shape the caplet by rounding off the edges as shown in the photo above. It's easiest to try it on and make a few marks. Don't worry if it's not a circle. Ours was quite oblong.

4. Cut out two half moons of white fleece and glue those on as your collar

5. Finish off with a red ribbon bow in-between the two half-moons, safety pinned from the inside of your caplet, and you're good to go!

Style Swap with The Sunny Scenery

Hiyee! This is N from TheSunnyScenery!
I've decided to impersonate Shelby for the day (muahaha) and take over her blog for just a sec. She'll BRB but for now you're stuck with me ;) -- hope that's okay! We decided to do a little collaboration today and swap blogs for a quick fashion post! For those of you who may be familiar with my blog The Sunny Scenery, it's all about them fashion, beauty, skincare, and lifestyle. From outfits to reviews, to tags, I've got a little bit of an identity crisis going on so it's a whole slew of stuff going on there--check it out! I even put out the occasional video if you're more of a watcher than a reader :) P.S. Shelby's got my page covered so go on over and check it out here.

Don't be a stranger and come introduce yourself, I'd love to meet you! If you wanna learn a little more about me, check out my "Versatile Blogger" post for some fun facts.

Facing it up with:

Rimmel London Clean Finish Foundation
Physician's Formula CoverTox Ten
Eyes Lips Face (E.L.F.) 83 Pcs. Essential Collection
Tarte Amazonian Clay Eyebrow Pencil
Rimmel Scandal Eyes 002 Bullet Proof Beige
Ulta Eye Crayon in Toasted
Covergirl Professional Super Thick Lash Mascara
Too Faced Juicy Jewels Liquid Lipstick

This eye looks is super easy and quick to do and really makes a statement without being too much. The exaggerated contour really helps to define the eye and give a good amount of depth to the lid (shout out to all of my monolid mates out there!). I used a combination of a nice champange and coppery base followed by an array of red-toned shadows to create this smoky fall-appropriate look.

Sporting:

Neon Green and Gold Feather Statement Necklace
H&M Cream-Colored Batwing Top
H&M Army Green Pants
Rust-Colored Boots
Gold Bangle

I know Fall is usually all about them reds and deep tones but I decided to switch it up here and there by throwing in a more rust-colored accent to go along with slightly muted greens. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Oxblood and Wine-Reds but I think fall embraces many other hues! Forest-y greens, Yellows, etc. This outfit is a nice transition from the summery days to the autumn nights. Just enough "dress" to impress but casual enough to rock all day, erry day :D

Thanks for stopping by!!!

Product Rave: Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil

If you've been following my blog you may have seen this eyebrow pencil in my Updated Everyday Natural High School Make Up List (click here) but if not, I felt the need to let you guys know that I've been using this product so often that it was time it got it's own special shout out :)

To use this product I've been messily shading in the darkest part of my brow, and then using the brush to spread the product out and define the shape of my brow. It's a super easy process in the morning and I never forget to do it. If I want an even more intense brow, I'll add a little bit of powder to deepen the color. It lasts all day and there's no need for a clear mascara or gel.

oh ho ho sneak peak alert!!! I may or may not be doing my first ever guest post with N.C. at The Sunny Scenerey. Keep an eye out on both of our blogs!! It should be up sometime this week ;)

Daisy Rollerball Marc Jacobs

Daisy it a fresh, young, every day scent that is suitable for the mildly girly girls like myself. On the Sephora website, it's described as, "Sophisticated, with a touch of whimsy, violet captures the eclectic, vintage flavor of Marc Jacobs' feminine, edgy designs. Always elegant, always enchanting - but not too serious - Daisy is a sparkling floral bouquet, spirited and fresh, wrapped in comfort and warmth."

One good thing to note is that I've found the Eu de Parfum less sharp than the concentrated perfume you can buy in bottles. If you have the chance, I'd definitely recommending giving both versions a good sniff.

Updated* Every Day Natural High School Make UP

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer - Medium 25
Since I want something lightweight for school, I love using a little bit of concealer where I need it: my chin area, around my nose, and a little bit on my cheeks. This product is super creamy and doesn't look out of place on my face which is why i love it!

Clinique Stay-Matte Sheer Pressed Powder - Stay Neutral
To set my concealer, I like using my Elf Powder Brush to dust a little bit of pressed powder all over my face. It blurs all the edges and makes everything last longer.

Rimmel Scandaleyes - 002 Sparkling Black
I have been loving this super creamy, sparkly black eyeliner on my upper lid. I love to smudge a little bit on my outer corner into a wing with a brush which seriously takes 30 seconds max. This formula is pretty wet and super easy to play with.

Naked 1 Palette - Darkhorse, Sin
To lessen the eye look and set the eyeshadow I've been patting a dark horse which is a metallic brown with gold shimmer over my eyeliner. It makes the look less harsh and adds a bit of dimension. To highlight, I love putting sin on my lower lash line to brighten up my eyes.

Maybelline The Falsies Mascara - Waterproof
To finish up the eyes I have been loving the Falsies waterproof mascara. I can't believe it took me this long to try it out! It keeps a curl, lengthens my lashes, and has yet to smudge on me!

Professional Eyebrow Pencil - 001 Dark Brown
For brows I've been using a pencil than than my usual powder routine. Its definitely a more precise, dark look which I prefer when I'm wearing glasses. I also don't need to use anything to set it like wax or clear mascara which eliminates a step.

Canmake Cheek & Cheek - 06
Lastly, I back at it with an old favorite. With my stippling brush I love dabbing a bit of this on each cheek with my Real Techniques Stippling Brush for a super fun, natural pretty pink.

New Glasses (HI IRIS!)

I used to absolutely hate wearing glasses and strictly stuck to contacts. But since I've got these I've worn contacts only once and it's been over 5 weeks! They have "thick" frames that are still thin enough that my eyes don't get lost behind them and I find the black to gray ombre less harsh against the face than all black rims. Lastly the sides are just wires which give everything a delicate touch and ensure that the frames aren't heavy and therefore uncomfortable.

I got these in asia so I can't link you guys, but if you have the chance to check out a pair of ombre glasses for yourself, I HIGHLY recommend!

My Lipstick Collection!

Lets just jump straight into it, shall we? I decided to add my tinted lip balms into these collection because I do love to mix them in with my lipsticks so it felt unfair to leave them out.

In absolutely NO particular order, lets do this :)

First Row [left to right]
Revlon Just Kissable Balm Stain - Darling Cherie
Super long lastinc cool toned pink-- I love this color when I want something that'll keep my teeth looking white.

Revlon Colorburst Lipstick 075 Peach
This is my GO TO lipstick during the tan months. Its a peachy nude that looks best when applied with the fingers as its quite creamy and can look too overwhelming when applied straight from the bullet. It took me a while to figure that out!

Maybelline Color Sensational 931 Pink Pleasure
A very versatile and pigmented bubble gum pink. It's slightly blue toned on the lips. I'm wearing it on my blog profile picture!

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick 616 Wink for Pink
I love this for the in between months when I'm losing/ gaining a tan. Click here for a full review!

Revlon Color Burst Lip Butter 045 Cotton Candy
Super sheer  and moisturizing baby pink with shimmer.

Revlon Color Burst Lip Butter 025 Peach Parfait
A slightly darker rose color with chunky glitter. Not my favorite-- but I keep it around anyways.

Revlon Color Burst Lip Butter 080 Strawberry Shortcake
A moisturizing blue toned pink that's more detectable on the lips than Cotton Candy.

Second Row

Revlon Color Burst Lip Butter 065 Creamsicle
A milky nude thats great for diluting other lipsticks and making drying lipsticks more wearable.

Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm Hibiscus
This is a SUPER creamy peachy lip balm. If you love the slickness of lip balms, this one is for you.

L'oreal Wet Shine 190 Endless Red
One of my favorite lip balms! When applied with the fingers, it gives a beautiful true red flush. Click here for a full review.

Nars Scarlet Empress
A vampy matte berry shade that looks stunning during the fall time.

Nars Shrinigar
A moisturizing sheer berry shade. Click here for a full review/pizza party!

Covergirl Smoochies 215 #luv u
A glossy, slightly thick purple/pink tinted lip balm.

Coach Poppy/Poppy Blossom

There are two sides to this rollerball-- both can be bought separately in a full size bottle. At first, I thought FOR SURE that my favorite side was Coach's poppy blossom but the more I wore both sides, the more I realized that I just could not pick.

Before I read the official description online, I had no clue how much stuff was in these perfumes. As my sister so perfectly put it, "there are a shit-ton of flowers."

Poppy
Definitely more floral then its counterpart, Poppy has a sweet wholesome base and a very clean finish. In the description it claims to have cucumber, mandarin, freesia, gardenias, vanilla and get this.. WHIPPED MARSHMELLOW?! Yeah, I don't really know whats going on there.. but I just smell sweet and faintly floral. It's very appropriate for girls without being sugary.

Poppy Blossom
For me, in comparison, very little about this perfume says floral. It has a more mature sharpness to
it-- its vaguely more fruity and I'm definitely picking up on the lychee. It's still light and suitable for a teenage audience for myself.

FOTD Senior Portraits

Only one year left! At my school, seniors get a special picture day rather than in the gym at orientation. All the girls wear a black velvet drape, and the guys wear a tux. It's one of those traditions that have been around for decades and fun seeing pictures of people my age wearing the exact same thing way back in the 50's. Also, none of the other classes get to do it. So for seniors, it's sort of like..

For makeup I stayed away from eyeshadow because that's not something that I wear during the school year and didn't want to look unrecognizable. BUT I couldn't resist a pair of false eyelashes to give my eyes a little boost.  I also added diamond studs-- but those didn't really turn up in the picture. :(
